You Light up my life

This is a scene from the movie “You Light Up My Life”. Yes there was a movie … look it up on IMDB. It is a very powerful scene and complementsd the song well. The song was actually recorded by session singer, Kacey Cisyk . Didi Conn (Yes she is Frenchie from Grease), acted in the movie and lip synched the song. Contrary to popular belief, Debby Boone did not perform the song first. She did it after this movie was made. In this scene, the woman shows up to try out for an acting part. They find out she is a singer so they ask her to sing as part of the tryout. She had written “You light up my life” and had had some arrangements made for it but she had only ever sung it on her guitar. She ends up giving the arrangements to the conducter and spontaneaously sings in front of an entire orchestra. The scene is quite moving and gets to me every time I see it. I love when the strings kick in. Anyway I wanted all of you to experience it as well. Enjoy!

The movie version by Kasey and Debbies version are very similiar vocally, i suspect thats why Debbie was chosen to re-record it for commercial release, coupled with the name “Boone”, which im sure was more of a commercial draw than the name “Kasey Cisyk”. . . who by the way, did have chart success, later on. . . . sadly she passed away

This was the first movie my husband and I saw together after we became engaged. Fell more in love while watching and listening to the movie. We used this as “Our” song as my Dad proudly walked me down the aisle to become Mrs. Wally Evans. We honored my parents by marrying on their wedding anniversary, February 25, 1950. We recently celebrated our 32nd Wedding Anniversary,. Our Wedding date was February 25, 1978! Thank you Debbie Boone for this “Wonderful Song”

You Light Up My Life” is both a Grammy Award and an Academy Award winning ballad written by Joe Brooks and originally recorded by the late Kasey Cisyk for the soundtrack to the film of the same name. The song was performed in the film by its lead, Didi Conn, who lip synched Cisyk’s version. Pat Boone’s daughter, Debby Boone, was recruited to record the single, which became a massive success, topping the Billboard Hot 100 chart for a record-setting ten consecutive weeks.

Debby did not steal it from anybody. She was approached to do the song, and she did, and the rest is history! Debby is known to have a beautiful voice! And she was instructed to sing it EXACTLY the same way that Cisyk did. . .

I remember this being a major scene. Thanks for sharing.

this is far better than that thief Debbie Boone who stole the song from a singer named Casey who got her start doing McDonald jingles. Stop giving credit where it does not belong.

@mthivier i loved this movie and couldnt believe that roger thorpe was in it too! and when he dissed her in the movie he was a total creep. Did he date “holly” on The guiding light?”

Kvitka Cisyk was a fully trained opera soprano. So she had vocal possibilities beyond those of Debby Boone or other pop singers. You can hear that in the softer parts of the song: While pop singers like Mariah Carey typically tend to raise their voice when getting to higher notes – simply because it’s easer to get a stable tone – Kvitka didn’t need to.

girlfriend looks like Didi Conn from Benson! This version is better than Debby Boone’s though.

This is the best (Kvitka Tsisyk)

I vaguely remember this movie from the ’70s. I remember the guy who played her Didi’s boyfriend was Michael Zaslow (Roger Thorpe from “The Guiding Light”), and he turned out to be a real creep (not much different from Roger, now that I think about it). It wasn’t “Citizen Kane”, but it was nowhere near as bad as the critics who trashed it said it was. It’s strange that they haven’t shown it more often on TV, since ’70s nostalgia has been so big.

So sad to hear that; I always knew the actress in the film had synced the track. Good to know the truth and shall think of Kasey Cisyk any time I hear the song in the future. x
