by Lydia Peru

Kombucha tea is an amazing brew that you can purchase or make at home. Back in the Chinese Empire of 200 BC Kombucha was known as the Elixir of Long Life.

Does the name Kombucha have meaning? Many believe it originated in Korea two thousand years ago. A medicine man treated the emporer with this elixir of long life. This healer, Kombu, appears to gain credit for this cha, or tea.

What exactly is Kombucha? It’s often referred to as a mushroom, but it isn’t. It’s just a symbiotic relationship between beneficial bacteria and yeast that create a culture that looks a little like a spongy cake.

How do we benefit from Kombucha tea? One of the best known qualities is the detoxifying assistance given to the liver through Kombucha tea. The alkaline levels of the body are also restored as the body is brought back into balance.

Kombucha also supports the healthy bacteria that live in our digestive tract, making it probiotic. It does not interfere with our normal body function, but instead aids our digestion. Last but not least, Kombucha helps restore balance on a metabolic level.

Can we improve our health through something as simple as drinking Kombucha tea? Many believe so, and conditions like acne and rheumatoid arthritis have responded to this simple drink. Studies continue around the world into the benefits of Kombucha for ailments as serious as cancer.

Nothing could be easier than adding a little Kombucha into your daily diet. Even our pets health can improve too, and many pets drink this elixir quickly once they feel the restoring benefits. Over time one thing is for sure, Kombucha tea continues to be a healthy, nutritious beverage.

The Stages of Cancer: Treatment and Side Effects

Monday, December 1st, 2008
by Virginia Pipolini

The following article is in response to requests for more detailed information about the stages of cancer, treatments, and ways to negate side effects. NOTE: as always, consult your doctor or practitioner for exact food/diet suggestions, as not everything works for all people.

Cancer takes it time to become know in the body. The stages of cancer are determined by the number of cells involved and the spread of those cancerous cells to other parts of the body. Stage zero begins with a few cells localized in one area. In the next three stages, I, II, and III, the cancerous cells begin spreading to nearby organs and increase in their rate of growth. In stage IV, often referred to as terminal cancer, the affect is now metastases, affecting many other organs and tissues.

The typical treatment protocols for cancer vary as to the type of cancer and the current stage. Surgical treatment may be used to cut out the cancerous cells. Radiation may be used to kill the cancer cells or shrink cancerous tumors. Chemotherapy is another treatment that inhibits the growth of cancer through drugs or chemicals. Immunotherapy is a nutrient or drum treatment that either stimulates inhibits the immune system. Transplant therapy uses healthy bone or stem cell tissues to give a reminder to cells of a healthy environment.

There are many possible side effects in any cancer treatment protocol. Of the more common side effects reports often include nausea, slow healing, loss of hair, changes to nails, digestion issues, pain, loss of smell or taste, weight change, fatigue anxiety and stress.

There are additional side affects that are not as common. Those can include allergic reactions, changes to blood pressure, shock, serious infections, seizures, and visual changes. The more long term problems stemming from cancer treatment are mental problems, increased malignancies, and especially in treatment through chemotherapy, heart attacks. The most profound and permanent affect to cancer intervention therapies is death of the person.

Two simple ways to offset side effects: First we have Diet. High protein and high calorie, with plenty of liquids; in small servings spread throughout the day, rather than two or three larger meals. Suggestions include lean meat (no/low red meat); lots of veggies (especially cruciferous*); whole grain products/fiber; non acidic fruits, juices, and sauces; smoothies, shakes, yogurt, cottage cheese, gravies; and lots of water.

The next in the top two self-care side effect therapies is energy healing. The beneficial effects of Reiki, Therapeutic Touch, Healing Touch, and Quantum Healing are well documented. The benefits range from decreased mental, physical, emotional stress and pain; balancing bodily processes; and increased healing responses.Energy healing sessions increase the body’s ability to survive.

There are many other helpful tips in dealing with the stages of cancer, treatment and side affects. Many who endure those strong cancer treatments have complained of changes to their taste. Most of us do not consider the pleasure we derive from the taste of our food, and to remove that taste or change it to a metallic taste often affects our ability to eat. Add a little juice for a better flavor. Serve smaller portions, and make sure food is easy to chew and digest. Provide hard candies to stimulate saliva production and aid digestion.

Remember to be patient and gentle, regardless of the treatment or interaction. There are many helpful healing aids we can provide through energy healing, therapeutic touch, massage therapy, and other interactive sessions. Allow the patient time to react and respond.

Is white tea the next big thing?

Saturday, November 8th, 2008

White tea, like most delightful, awesome, incredible and totally mind blowing herbal, natural, home) remedies has its roots a few thousand years ago in the southern regions of China, in particular the Fu ding and Fujian provinces. Since its discovery White tea has been used as a health drink as well as a delightful cocktail offered to wealthy guests.

As you probably know all tea comes from the Camilla sinensis plant. To make it more simpler, white, black and green tea comes from the same plant. The difference in their colors and benefits relates to what is done before and after the leaf is picked from the plant.

Knowing how each kind of tea is made is not important, however its is interesting to note that white tea gets its name from the silver sort of fuzz that covers the leaf buds. This silver fuzz then turns white when the tea is dried up.

White tea leaves undergo much less processing as compared to green and black tea.

White tea leaves are removed when they are still quite young leaving the leaf with a much more antioxidants rich base.

It has a light and delightful taste and you should steep it in boiling water the same way that green tea is brewed.

White tea contains less caffeine than any form of tea due to it being picked from the tea plant when it was a bud.

white tea tastes really good but besides that it’s also a good natural remedy for almost everything. Research has revealed that it increases the lipoprotein lipase activity in the human body which in turn increases the metabolism rate thus helping considerably in losing weight. It kills cancer cells, it maintains moderately lower levels of cholesterol, it helps in blood circulation by thinning the blood, reducing blood pressure, firmer bones, brighter skin, and so much more

A treatment of cancer explained

Saturday, November 8th, 2008
by Dane Masters

It is often seen that we remain blissfully ignorant of the latest information of cancer unless we are in a situation when we have to pay attention to what is the latest buzz in cancer treatments. We generally do not read up medical articles unless we have a fascination for those and needless to say we do not bother to know more about the diseases, their solutions, symptoms or the side effects. This is what happened to my closest pal of twenty nine years.

A clinical nurse specialist specializing in geriatric nursing, my friend has a wealth of medical and other knowledge that rivals the minds of MENSA members. But she knew nothing of Cancer or of the latest treatment for Canceruntil she was diagnosed with invasive cervical adinocarcinoma. Neither of knew much before this, save the limited and exaggerated details of the side effects of chemo and radiation. We now, however, know a bit more. Today she goes for her first of many treatments, so in tacky form, I relay the process of one treatment for Cancer as she experiences it.

It was in 2005 that Vaness was diagnosed with cancer. She was taken for surgery and the malignant growths that threatened to overtake her lymph nodes were removed by a radical hysterectomy. She next had to go for a PET (Positron Emission Tomography) scan. This test helps to verify the diagnoses and helps doctors decide on the further course of treatment. PET and a few other tests showed that the cancer was spread up to her lungs and reached down to the vaginal area. A reputable surgeon then called Vaness and told her to discard the standard method of treatment of the disease and advised her to extricate the affected lymph nodes. (It is not possible to remove all the lymph nodes as these aid our endocrine system and help in secretion and in other systems). A lot of suggestions came her way but she opted to follow the surgeon’s advice and on the 14th of February she underwent surgery for the second time.

After the surgery she went for consultations about the chemo and the radiation. The doctor explained to her in great detail the many pros and cons of the therapy and also showed with the help of statistics the possibility of a side effect occurring. In contrast to what we knew, we came to realize that you do not lose hair or bowel control as you expect to. The rates were very low in those regards. We were also made to realize that most of the symptoms were psychogenic. The patient, by his/her thinking brings them on to himself/herself. If you think you would vomit, very soon you would.

After about two months of her first diagnosis, Vaness who was then administered an IV that was used in one side of her body, went to have two more medications. She had to take Glutamine and Compazine. While Glutamine energizes the immune system, Compazine helps to prevent the nauseated feeling that is the result of the use of Amaphostine injection(s).

Today, at 9 a. m., Vaness went in for her first treatment of cancer. She will take chemo, then, on day 1 (for four days in a row), day 29, then weekly. At the same time, she will take palliative radiation treatments five days a week for ten weeks. Palliative radiation relieves symptoms and “improves” quality of life, but does not cureas there is no “cure”.

These two treatments combined can only last for ten weeks, as they first will not cure the cancer and as they second can kill her. Such is the irony: the treatment for cancer is deadly enough to treat the cancer but deadly enough to kill the cancer patient. In another respect, however, the mind, friends, and brilliant medical practitioners have contributed to the miraculous and rare recovery of a percentage of women who live to tell about the scare. And that percentage, that number of survivors, grows every year.
