Can consuming acai berries cause side effects?

Acai berry, the fruit of the Brazilian palm tree has recently been heavily promoted as a diet supplement. Since people often wonder about the potential side effects of such products when they first hear about them, of course they will probably wonder if the supplementation of acai berry will cause any problems. Perhaps they will think this because of the extract form acai berry so often comes in. There must be a similarity drawn between acai berry and something like ephedra in the individuals mind.

Have you ever heard of someone having a negative reaction to a blueberry? Probably not. Considering that an acai berry is not too different from a blueberry, you most likely do not need to worry about any negative effects. Similarly, no study has ever proven that acai berry causes side effects in non-allergic individuals. Even if the extract form of acai you’re taking is more potent than a puree or the whole berry, you should only experience beneficial effects.

Many who wonder about the potential for side effects may also be wondering if acai berry supplementation could cause an interaction with a drug they are taking. The answer is most likely no. The only fruit which has frequently been shown to cause interactions with certain drugs, namely statins, is grapefruit. If you’re worried about drug interactions, consider that an acai berry is essentially about the same as a blueberry, so consider if you would be similarly worried about blueberries causing an interaction or side effects.

The most common purple variety contains the highest concentration while the white variety contains the lowest. It is unlikely that you will find the white variety in North America however. There are many other benefits of consuming acai berry, but the objective of this article is to clarify that no study has yet proven any risks of eating acai. With all of the hyper surrounding this supplement, one could easily assume that eating it could cause side effects, but that is not the case. Acai berry truly has no negatives unless you happen to not like the taste which is also unlikely!

Lose the Weight and the Worries that Weigh You Down in 2009!

Do you arm yourself with a candy bar when battling your worries? I did, for more years than I’d like to admit. When I turned to food to fix my worries, food fixed me real good! The more I ate, the fatter and more stressed out I got. But for some strange reason, that didn’t stop me from heading for the refrigerator or grabbing a few of my favorite candy bars when I was upset. And I was upset A LOT.

I was the RN supervisor of a large medical-surgical floor in a hospital-telling everybody what to do to get healthy, and I felt like a dummy because I couldn’t stop overeating even though it made my blood pressure soar. My doctor told me I could have a stroke if I didn’t lose weight, so guess what I did: I went home and ate everything I could get my hands on. A doctor I worked with congratulated me for being pregnant–when I wasn’t–and I swore I would eat 500 calories until I wore a size 3, but I’ll bet you can guess what I did instead: I ate until I was about to pop.

I wanted to be thin more than anything in the world, so why couldn’t I quit overeating? I didn’t understand it then, but I do now. When we eat, our bodies secrete feel-good brain chemicals–neurotransmitters, such as serotonin. So eating really does relieve stress temporarily.

The problem is that when we turn to food to fix our problems, they only grow, and so do we!

Twenty-five years ago, after a lifetime of overeating and stressing out, I began discovering practical ways to lose the weight and worries that weighed me down. Here are three things that did, and still do:

I started writing in a Prayer Journal about things that were stressing me out. I learned that resentments are fattening, pouting puts pounds on and worries widen hips so I cast those cares on God, and not on the refrigerator. I stopped playing games with my eating. Some of my favorites– “Broken Cookies Don’t Count,” “Fudge Is My Fortress,” “I’ve Already Blown It Today So What I Eat Now Won’t Hurt Me.”

Overtraining and Another Ways to Kill Your Muscle Gains

A guy in the gym finishes a hard, focused set of barbell squats and re-racks the weight. His legs are wobbly, his heart is racing and he feels light headed as he takes a big swig from his water bottle. He looks down at his watch and presses the start button to begin counting down backwards from 2 minutes.

He saw on TV that 2 minutes is the perfect rest time between sets, and what he wants is to do it exactly in that way. So, the watch beeps and he’s be back in the squat rack ready for his next set of exercises with the weights.

Time is up. His still feel weak and his heart is still beating a lot, he doesn’t feel completely ok, but the watch beeped and that means his has to go back and perform another set, it does’nt matter how he feels.

He performs the next set. He is not really ready to exercise right now, so he puts forth a mediocre effort, finish the set, and waits for another 2 seconds. He is making a huge mistake, just as hundreds of lifters in another gyms.

By having a set rest interval between sets, he is forcing his body to train at an effort level that is far less than his maximum potential and is severely sacrificing the amount of muscle growth he can ultimately stimulate because of this.

Muscles grow because of an adaptive response to stress. You lift X amount of weight for Y number of reps, and your body adapts to this level of stress. In order to see continual gains in muscle size, you must continually force X and Y to higher and higher levels.

In other words, building muscle is all about progression in both weight and reps. It is about lifting as much weight as you possibly can for the greatest number of reps that you possibly can (within a given rep range of course) and then continually striving to improve.

So, every time you are going to start a new set you have to do it when you are at your maximum. If you don’t do it so, you sacrifice the amount of muscle you can build. In other words, give your body enough rest between sets in order to achieve the best results.

A watch will never tell you when you are ready to begin the next set. Instead of it, listen to your body and you will know when to follow your training.

The set rest period theory is also highly flawed because it does not take into account the fact that certain exercises tax the body much more heavily than others and therefore require more rest between them.

Factually speaking, as we age, our bodies change. As the change to our bodies become more apparent, we now have to worry about places of stored fat that we didn’t have to worry about before.

Hormonal changes in the body can also affect the shape that you are in but there is one thing that always remains the same at all ages - If you eat too much food and drink too much alcohol you will gain weight.

Throughout your life, you should maintain your fat percentage at an optimum level. By doing so, the health benefits are large like; a better quality of life, reduced dependence on medications and save money on costly medications and avoiding other health related problems as you age.

Anyone at any age can benefit from improved nutrition and exercise.

You will live longer and happier by reducing the excess levels in your body fat.

You can turn back your body clock by beginning an exercise program coupled with an improvement in your nutritional intake. The most important part is getting started and the sooner you start the better.

Why It Is Important to Add Variety When Preparing Food

If you have small children, you probably already know that it can be a real chore to feed them. This is especially true if they are picky about what food they will and will not eat. It is important to ensure your children get enough nutrition from their food and luckily, there are ways of convincing them to eat even if they don’t want to. It is a good idea to have a few favorite dishes on standby, such as crockpot chicken noodle soup, hotdogs, pizza, homemade chicken noodle soup, and chicken nuggets with cheesy mashed potatoes.

Even though it may be a chore, when you are preparing dinner, prepare several different dishes so your child has choice of what he or she wants. You could try asking them what they are in the mood for on occasion to get a guaranteed winner night with no fitting over them eating anything let alone enough.

Encourage your child to take a no thank you bite of each of the dishes that you prepare. This way he or she will at least taste the food before disliking it. Nine out of ten times, he or she will like the dish and possibly ask for more.

Another way that you can encourage your child to eat is to give the food names of their favorite cartoon or fictional character. Atomic Betty beans or Patrick pancakes can bring a smile to your child’s face and a full belly. Children identify with their favorite shows, and if they think that they are eating their favorite cartoons food, then they will most likely clean their plates.

It is a good idea to make colorful dishes. You could use red, green, and yellow peppers and call the dish Christmas casserole for example. Corn, broccoli, carrots, and tomatoes all add color.

Children are fussy when they are small and they know what they like. If something appears unappetizing, you won’t have much chance encouraging them to eat it. Children depend on you to get them to eat healthy foods.

If you like to cook, one way that you can encourage your child to eat is to let them prepare the meal with you. When you do this, they will see the ingredients, which are being added and feel like they are a part of the cooking process. They are more likely to eat what they prepare because they are proud to have done it. They would much rather have some homemade chicken noodle soups than the stuff in the red and white can.

If you know your child does not like a particular ingredient, you can grind it in the food processor while they are not looking. They won’t be able to taste it in the finished meal.

When you are feeding your child, sometimes you will need to use alternative ingredients or different methods. The main thing to remember is that when dealing with kids, you do need a certain amount of flexibility. The chicken noodle soup your child would never eat before can become his favorite if you let him help you prepare it and give it a cartoon name.
