Have you ever noticed how much more difficult it is to apply your mascara and eyeliner when the winter chill starts to set in? Your mascara might be just a little stiffer coming out of the tube which makes a clean application near impossible. Or perhaps your eyeliner is much harder than usual and doesn’t even seem to leave any color on your eye lid. It’s because the cold of winter can pose a few problems with makeup application, especially when it comes to eye makeup. I have a few makeup tips that I use on a regular basis that I hope will make your life a little easier.
The key to a smooth eyeliner application is to have it be the right temperature. It is so frustrating when eyeliner is too cold and hard and doesn’t seem to want to go on. The exciting thing is that each of us has a secret weapon; our bodies. Your body heat has just the right effect on your eye makeup to get it to the perfect temperature without over warming it. If you just stick your eyeliner right next to your hip letting the elastic on your pants hold it to your body, after a few minutes, it will be ready. I always do my hair while my eye liner warms up.
This same tip is great for your mascara. When it’s too cold, mascara is often more difficult to deal with than eyeliner. When it’s cold, your lashes end up looking clumped together and stiff. Using your body heat works great to avoid letting your mascara ruin your makeup look. I’ve found that it takes a little bit longer to warm up than the eyeliner, so you’ll want to give it a few extra minutes. You’ll find that the time is worth it when your mascara then goes on smoothly.
I never apply mascara without curling my lashes first. With that in mind, I have one final tip to help your lashes look their best. To get the best curl from your lashes, you can warm up your eyelash curler. Think about it, you use a warm curling iron to curl your hair, why wouldn’t your eyelashes curl better if the eyelash curler were warm. I will use my body heat to help warm my eye lash curler.
Sometimes, when I am in a time crunch, I use my blow dryer on low heat just for a few seconds. If you use your blow dryer to warm up your lash curler, make sure you test it first with your finger to make sure it’s not too hot since your eye is such a sensitive area. Hopefully, with these tips, the cold of winter won’t make a difference; you’ll still look your best.

Not many are aware of this but there is a right and a wrong to wash your hair. When you do wash your hair properly, you will notice a much better difference in the health and shine of your hair. It is very likely that you have washing your hair incorrectly and as a result you’re not getting the really clean and healthy looking hair that we are all capable of having.
Step 1. - Start. Begin by brushing your hair well before you climb into the shower, this will help to loosen dirt, reduce hair breakage and reduce the amount of hair being caught in your plug hole. When you have finished giving your hair a good brush it’s time to give your hair a good soaking using warm (not hot) water. For washing your hair properly, it is important that you get all of your hair completely wet, as washing dry hair is difficult.
Step 2. - Applying shampoo. A common mistake that many people make when washing their hair is the amount of shampoo they use. Often people will just add a big dollop to the palm of their hand and then start rubbing it in. This is not the way to do it. If you are using the very highest quality hair care products (which is always recommended) you only need use a small amount as professional hair products are usually more concentrated.
Step 3. - The proper way to wash your hair. There two biggest errors people usually make in washing their hair are: 1). Scrubbing/massaging too hard 2). Rinsing off shampoo too quickly. After adding the shampoo, the best way to wash your hair is too rub or massage your scalp and hair gently. Vigorous scrubbing can be bad for you scalp and does clean hair any better. When you have finished lightly massaging your hair for a short period, the shampoo can be left in for up to 5 minutes for a thorough clean.
Step 4. - Rinse and Repeat. Now that your hair has had a good shampooing, it’s time to get all of that dirt, grime and shampoo lather out of your hair. When you come to rinse your hair, it’s important to give your hair a really good rinsing. While it may look like all of the shampoo has been rinsed out, there can still be plenty of product left in your hair. Once you have rinsed, there is absolutely no harm in washing your hair a second time. When your hair squeaks, you know it’s clean.
Properly washing your hair will make a difference to how your hair looks, and regular proper washing will transform the look and feel of your hair after a period of time. Following the simple steps given above will guarantee great looking clean hair. An extra tip for even better looking hair is to consider using professional salon products on your hair. They usually contain the best ingredients for cleansing hair and are concentrated so you use less and save money.

Looking after your hair is a top priority if you pride yourself on having clean and healthy looking hair, and using quality hair care products (i.e. shampoo and conditioner) is a must. However, when it comes to getting the best value for money should you buy professional salon hair care products, or would cheap high street hair care products be just as good?
Cheap hair products available from the average high street store might appear to be better value for money because of their lower cost, while professional salon hair care products often appear to be pricier, with the average salon hair products priced at $20/GBP10, and a similar size cheap hair care product costing $4/GBP2.
On just this kind of price comparison alone, it appears that the cheap high street hair products are the winners as you are getting 5 times as much product for the same cost, or the same amount of product for 1/5 the price of the salon professional hair care products.
When you look more closely at the comparison between the effectiveness and the quality of high street hair products and salon hair products, does the comparison end up in the favour of cheap hair care products, or do the cheaper high street products turn out to be a false economy?
To discover which in the long term out of cheap hair care products from the high street and professional salon hair care products proved the best value for money, we decided to test the products to find out how the high street hair products compare with the salon professional hair products.
For our test we compared a 300ml bottle of professional salon shampoo and compared that with a 300ml bottle of your average cheap high street shampoo. To achieve the our required standard of cleaning, the professional salon shampoo needed just 10ml per application to achieve this standard, whereas the cheap high street shampoo needed 50ml per application to achieve the same standard of cleaning.
Needing 50ml per application, a 300ml bottle of cheap high street shampoo would give you about 6 applications. But using only 10ml per application, the professional hair care shampoo gives you approximately 30 applications in a 300ml bottle. Comparing the prices, the price per application of the professional salon shampoo is $0.66c/GBP0.33p per application, and the cheap average high street shampoo worked out at $0.64c/GBP0.32p per application.
Result: although the high street shampoo appears to be better value, in truth there is very little difference in cost compared to the professional hair shampoo. The professional shampoo is of much higher quality and more effective in cleaning your hair. Buying cheap high street hair shampoo is a false economy. Q? Why would you want to use an inferior product on your hair?
