Not many are aware of this but there is a right and a wrong to wash your hair. When you do wash your hair properly, you will notice a much better difference in the health and shine of your hair. It is very likely that you have washing your hair incorrectly and as a result you’re not getting the really clean and healthy looking hair that we are all capable of having.

Step 1. - Start. Begin by brushing your hair well before you climb into the shower, this will help to loosen dirt, reduce hair breakage and reduce the amount of hair being caught in your plug hole. When you have finished giving your hair a good brush it’s time to give your hair a good soaking using warm (not hot) water. For washing your hair properly, it is important that you get all of your hair completely wet, as washing dry hair is difficult.

Step 2. - Applying shampoo. A common mistake that many people make when washing their hair is the amount of shampoo they use. Often people will just add a big dollop to the palm of their hand and then start rubbing it in. This is not the way to do it. If you are using the very highest quality hair care products (which is always recommended) you only need use a small amount as professional hair products are usually more concentrated.

Step 3. - The proper way to wash your hair. There two biggest errors people usually make in washing their hair are: 1). Scrubbing/massaging too hard 2). Rinsing off shampoo too quickly. After adding the shampoo, the best way to wash your hair is too rub or massage your scalp and hair gently. Vigorous scrubbing can be bad for you scalp and does clean hair any better. When you have finished lightly massaging your hair for a short period, the shampoo can be left in for up to 5 minutes for a thorough clean.

Step 4. - Rinse and Repeat. Now that your hair has had a good shampooing, it’s time to get all of that dirt, grime and shampoo lather out of your hair. When you come to rinse your hair, it’s important to give your hair a really good rinsing. While it may look like all of the shampoo has been rinsed out, there can still be plenty of product left in your hair. Once you have rinsed, there is absolutely no harm in washing your hair a second time. When your hair squeaks, you know it’s clean.

Properly washing your hair will make a difference to how your hair looks, and regular proper washing will transform the look and feel of your hair after a period of time. Following the simple steps given above will guarantee great looking clean hair. An extra tip for even better looking hair is to consider using professional salon products on your hair. They usually contain the best ingredients for cleansing hair and are concentrated so you use less and save money.

Salon Hair Care Products vs. Cheap High Street Hair Products

Looking after your hair is a top priority if you pride yourself on having clean and healthy looking hair, and using quality hair care products (i.e. shampoo and conditioner) is a must. However, when it comes to getting the best value for money should you buy professional salon hair care products, or would cheap high street hair care products be just as good?

Cheap hair products available from the average high street store might appear to be better value for money because of their lower cost, while professional salon hair care products often appear to be pricier, with the average salon hair products priced at $20/GBP10, and a similar size cheap hair care product costing $4/GBP2.

On just this kind of price comparison alone, it appears that the cheap high street hair products are the winners as you are getting 5 times as much product for the same cost, or the same amount of product for 1/5 the price of the salon professional hair care products.

When you look more closely at the comparison between the effectiveness and the quality of high street hair products and salon hair products, does the comparison end up in the favour of cheap hair care products, or do the cheaper high street products turn out to be a false economy?

To discover which in the long term out of cheap hair care products from the high street and professional salon hair care products proved the best value for money, we decided to test the products to find out how the high street hair products compare with the salon professional hair products.

For our test we compared a 300ml bottle of professional salon shampoo and compared that with a 300ml bottle of your average cheap high street shampoo. To achieve the our required standard of cleaning, the professional salon shampoo needed just 10ml per application to achieve this standard, whereas the cheap high street shampoo needed 50ml per application to achieve the same standard of cleaning.

Needing 50ml per application, a 300ml bottle of cheap high street shampoo would give you about 6 applications. But using only 10ml per application, the professional hair care shampoo gives you approximately 30 applications in a 300ml bottle. Comparing the prices, the price per application of the professional salon shampoo is $0.66c/GBP0.33p per application, and the cheap average high street shampoo worked out at $0.64c/GBP0.32p per application.

Result: although the high street shampoo appears to be better value, in truth there is very little difference in cost compared to the professional hair shampoo. The professional shampoo is of much higher quality and more effective in cleaning your hair. Buying cheap high street hair shampoo is a false economy. Q? Why would you want to use an inferior product on your hair?

Male Pattern Baldness Requires Careful Research

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008
by Marlene Baliss

Millions of men around the world suffer from thinning hair, and worry that they will soon become completely bald. There are a variety of reasons for hair loss, but male pattern baldness is the most common, and one of the most frustrating.

Learning about male pattern baldness and its implications will help you to get a handle on your own situation. Finding possible remedies that can help stem the loss of hair, or renew hair follicles will depend on you doing some research. Most men find that their hair thins with age, and depending on several factors, this process could lead to baldness in the center or the entire scalp. It is not a pleasant problem to have, but it is not something you face alone, either.

If you are in the initial stages of male pattern baldness, you can relate it to a combination of things. Looking at the causes may help you begin to find a solution, though not every case will have a corresponding solution.

Family genes are the most common culprit of male pattern baldness. Blame your ancestors once again! As we age, dihyrdo-testosterone can impact our hormone balance. Increased hair thinning can be a result of these complex interactions of chemicals in our bodies.

Testosterone changes as we age, and although scientists have not completely sorted out all of the specific cause and effect relationships between hormones and baldness, they continue to work on the problem. Our bodies normally produce enzymes that help hair grow. However, as we age, and as testosterone changes in composition, it can interact with these enzymes, leading to negative effect on hair growth.

Some men find that their hair is falling out in chunks, or that thinning is taking place more rapidly than expected. Please consult a doctor if this is happening to you, as these things are not normal for male pattern baldness, but rather indicate a more serious health problem. There are many diseases or disorders that can be the source of this, so the only way to determine the problem is to talk to a health professional as soon as possible.

However, if your situation is more indicative of normal male pattern baldness, then there are fewer potential causes — and solutions. Do some research into potential products and other solutions that are available. Some of them do slow thinning of hair, or encourage hair growth. But others have little effect. Digging around a little will help you to determine whether an effective treatment might fit your situation. Millions of men are in your same position, so there are plenty of companies that make claims about solutions for male pattern baldness.

Finally, be careful out there! The hair loss industry has a long history of being inundated with false claims and unscrupulous characters selling snake oil cures. They prey on the desperation that some men have when faced with this problem, and thus they are more vulnerable to falling for the lies that some people perpetrate. Not all of the products or organizations are cheaters, so ask friends or family members who also experienced male pattern baldness about what they have heard or tried. Take your time to research any products or organizations that you intend to use. Good luck.

Styling Fine Hair

by Geoffrey Kupchin

People with fine hair have various problems styling it. There are tips to be given about styling your fine hair and some of them work better for men, whilst others do so for women. Some recent developments in the field however, provide a powerful tool for solving this problem in both genders.

You have probably noticed, that the majority of men with fine and thinning hair have either cut their hair short using the comb over method or have permed and colored it to give it some body.

Women however, have far more choices in improving their hair appearance with longer hair options and different hair styles. There are tips for both men and women.

1. A Perm.

With thin and fine hair, getting a perm could be just the thing for you. Achieving a few curls could get you the thicker looking hair you’ve been striving for. Just be sure to familiarise your stylist with the problem of your fine hair, so that they can adjust the strength of your perm accordingly. A gentler one would still do the job.

2. Highlights.

Dying your hair will automatically add thickness to your shafts and make your hair appear fuller and thicker. Be careful not to use too strong of a hair dye however. Some brands are much gentler than others, so do consult with your hair stylist.

3. Microfibers.

In recently conducted surveys, laser cut microfibers prove to be the most efficient every day cosmetic solution to thinning and fine hair. They work on the principle of applying mascara to your eye-lashes. Instead of brushed on, the microfibers are sprinkled on top of your hair and work equally well for both men and women.

The bad news is microfibers would not work on your completely bald patches as they need hair, however tiny, to attach to.
