Excessive Snoring and Treatment

Saturday, March 28th, 2009
by Irene Mmari

Snoring is one of the most familiar sleep problems – neither exhausting nor deadly, it still may cause some grave problems which may or may not be a consequence of its affects. Fleshy necks are mostly likely to have more muscle that will droop during relaxed breathing. This is usually found in older men with a high risk of obesity. Snoring is induced by contracted passages in the nose and throat. This condition is because of the state of ease sleep induces in a persons body.

With a narrowed passage, the pressure of the air from the mouth and back is elevated and this causes the flapping muscle to oscillate even more, which successively produces the snoring sounds. Whatever narrows down the air passage and relaxes the muscular tissue will in all probability start the vibrations. A clogged nose also fixes the amount of air which passes through the air passages resulting in some individuals having snoring issues that are a result of sinus problems.

The attitude in which the sufferer sleeps can also bear upon snoring. One of the best things you can do to try to help your snoring, is not to sleep on your back. Sleeping on your back forces your muscle to be retracted by gravity. It is suggested that you change your sleeping position so that you do not sleep on your back. The repair of surplus muscle is normally the best curative to rid the tissues that line the respiratory pathway that cause you to snore.

An otolaryngologist, a specialist in conditions that are directly associated with ear, nose and throat problems, will help discover what genuinely causes your snoring problem. For a complete evaluation of the condition, he is the only individual in a position to do this. The established technique of surgery for snoring is the uvulopalatopharyngoplasty or UPPP, which proposes to widen the air passages. The treatment consists of removing any extra tissue that may be shrinking the passageway in the throat. This kind of excess growth is frequently associated with the uvula, adenoids, tonsils and pharynx.

The more intensified variation of this technique called laser-assisted uvulopalatoplasty or LAUP uses laser in the extraction of the muscle that inhibits normal air passage. Mild snoring can profit from either method, but these techniques are not helpful for those enduring sleep apnea or serious snoring. Doctors who find their patents snoring to be stimulated by an obstruction in their nasal septum frequently encourages nasal surgery as a treatment choice.

Tongue Suspension Procedure is a technique that intends to keep the tongue from falling back and this is carried out by introducing a tiny screw in the lower jaw to which the tongue is attached to. Somnoplasty or the shrinkage of throat tissue is also a frequent technique that utilizes an electrode needle that releases energy to reduce the surplus tissue. Surgery may not be a simple way of repairing your floppy throat muscular tissue but this procedure produces the best solutions so be sure to first talk over all concerns with your physician so that proper therapy is delivered to you.

Gratitude brings a new perspective to your life. See the glass as half full and realize that you are beginning to change for the better. The world opens up when seen through the eyes of a gracious heart. Challenges in your life become manageable and little inconveniences seem unimportant when the focus is on an attitude of gratitude.

Learning to express gratitude can take many forms. The first one that springs to mind is journaling. Another way to show others that you are grateful is to wear jewelry. Every day you wear it, you will be making gratitude a part of your life.

Many different items can be used to fashion jewelry. Jewelry can be used to enhance your beauty but also to remind you of the positive elements in your life.

Gratitude jewelry is symbolic of what you feel inside. It reminds you to be grateful for what you have. It could be a pair of earrings, a bracelet or a necklace that you choose to convey this sentiment.

It is the wearing of the jewelry that begins the process. Every time you are aware of it, you can practice the power of gratitude. Journaling to show gratitude is a wonderful thing to do but it can easily become a chore and cause stress if you miss a day of it. Putting on jewelry takes only seconds and it is an effortless way to remember all the things in your life that you are grateful for. That feeling will stay with you throughout the day.

Stress Reduction through Gratitude

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009
by Deanna Collins

We live in stressful times and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Combating stress is a skill that we can learn in order to maximize quality of life. One of the most effective ways to do this is through cognitive redirection and focusing on positives rather than negatives. Acknowledging good fortune in our lives and not allowing problems and setbacks to dominate our outlook is an important and simple way to deal with stress.

It’s easier to be ungrateful about the bad cards we are dealt than to be grateful for what we do have and achieve. Sometimes it takes disaster to make us grateful for the things that we take for granted: a roof overhead, a warm bed and hot shower. Identifying the things we should be grateful for is an exercise in positive thinking that can actually change the way that we feel and balance out the effects of stress.

The factors causing stress are many, but it is defined as a state where an individual is not in equilibrium with their individual surroundings. It is known to us now that the distinction between both body and mind is of limited usefulness. Negative thoughts are able to have an affect on the body, just as trauma can affect the mind. Experiences of stress prompting negative emotions may have a direct affect when it comes to body chemistry. In response to any threat or stress, our bodies produce hormones and other chemicals, such as adrenalin and cortisol.

We are fortunate enough to have the opposite apply as well. Any calm environment and/or positive thoughts are able to combat both the physical and mental effects of stress. Taking a little time out of every day to concentrate on the positive – even a small period of time as little as five minutes – you can easily separate yourself from stressors and their effects.

Learning to recognize nuggets of good fortune can radically change our perspective. Problems can overshadow the things that are going well and distort perception. For example, we panic about uncompleted tasks instead of rewarding ourselves for what we have achieved. Especially over a prolonged period of stress, we can develop patterns of jumping to negative conclusions. Focusing on things that make us happy is a powerful technique for disrupting that pattern of thinking and reducing stress. It can even boost the immune system.

If you are tense, stressed and can’t see the wood for the trees, it may initially be hard to identify things to be grateful for. It may take practice, but it can be something as simple as a sunny day or a flower blooming in the garden. At first you will probably rely on hindsight but with time you will find it becoming easier.

While training yourself to recognize the many reasons you have to be grateful, the amount of time you spend taking things for granted will lessen dramatically. Seeing that flower blooming will trigger the recognition for seeing the reasons for celebration. As this appreciation integrates into your daily routine and functionality you can, and will discover how this process will reinforce positive thinking as well as your capacity to deal with stress.

Eyeconic Frames – Guide to the type of glasses you should wear

Thursday, February 19th, 2009
by Gurpreet Singh

It’s time to choose the correct frames, and our guide helps you to decide which glasses to wear. No matter matter face shape you have just read on to learn more, and help you to make an informed decision.

Glasses are in fashion now and more and more people are using them as fashion accessories. Both men and women have realised that glasses can make all the difference to the way they want to look and the image they want to create. Today there are many different styles and colours available and choosing the correct frames can be a daunting task. The key is to choose the frame which bring out the shape of your face and your best features.

So how do you go about choosing? Your eyecare practitioner will gladly spend time with you when selecting your frames, helping and advising over the ones that look best and suit your lifestyle. Some practices even have computer screens that enable you to see how you look in certain frames. Ultimately, the choice has to be yours, but here are a few useful pointers on choices for different complexions and face shapes.

Asian Skin: People with darker skin and black or dark hair would do well wearing glasses which are silver in colour, or even have elements of gold and clear in their frames. Other darker colour such as burgundy and brown can be very useful. Try to avoid black as it can seem too heavy.

Black Skins: Any colour which has a metallic effect would be benficial for this skin type. Depending on the type of frame black could work well or not so well. Try to look at the clothes you wear and work your glasses to match your style.

Faces that are oval in face: Oval faces have a wider forehead than the jaw. This is usually in most cases. They also have a smoothly rounded face which is balanced. Almost all frames would suit this shape but try to avoid larger frames, such as aviator style prescription glasses.

Rounded Faces: Squarish or larger frames would be well suited to this face shape. Avoiding smaller frames is a must as this could make the face seem ever rounder. Square glasses would help to make the face seem less rounded, and ensure that the face seem a lot slimmer. But it would be important to wear brighter colour such as green and yellow.

Heart-shaped: Squared frames would work very well with heart shaped faces, as well as including glasses that are round in shape. These faces have a small, neat chin and mouth, tapering up and out to a broader forehead so choose frames to highlight this.

Squared Faces: This shape face would do well wearing frames that do not emphasise the squareness of the face. Try wearing oval shaped frames as this would take attention away from the jawline.

A Further Look at Bipolar Disorder Symptoms

Saturday, February 14th, 2009
by Ken P Doyle

The mental disorder known as bipolar affects people of any ages. However, it occurs more commonly in teens and adults. It can be quite difficult to self-diagnose because there are a lot of mental disorders with similar symptoms to Bipolar disorder. Another problem is that there are different types of bipolar which makes it difficult for people to realize that what they are experiencing is already the symptoms of bipolar disorder.

The Depressive Episode

During a depressive episode comes one of the classic symptoms of bipolar. This is a decrease in pleasure and interest in the activities of daily living. The mood here can be very different to the standard moods and interests of normal individuals. The person with this would feel like he or she is in a state of depression, which can occur with or without causes at all. Sadness or emptiness is additional moods that can be described as in this state. Acting in these ways often calls for ridicules from people around those with bipolar. Another effect that this phase of bipolar disorder has is that it can negatively impact a persons occupational and social functioning. Bipolar symptoms can last for days and even up to weeks depending on the severity of the disorder.

The person will most probably lose weight because the appetite is affected. Other common symptoms are extreme fatigue, loss of energy, decrease in gross motor skill agitation, and sleeplessness. The person may also have feelings of worthlessness and guilt, all which can lead to suicidal attempts and death.

Mania Phase

The person may be experiencing the manic phase if not in the depressive state. However, the symptoms displayed by the affected person are the total opposite of the depression state. Like the depressive episode, behaviors displayed here may also be of known or unknown causes. Symptoms, like the depression state as well, may last for days or weeks depending on the severity of the disorder.

Mixed Period

The mixed period is a dangerous time. This is where the both bipolar symptoms, depressive episode and manic episode, manifest at the same time. This is considered more dangerous because it could last from a week to a couple of weeks. It can cause more social impairment in the daily functioning and work situations. When they both occur at the same time, it becomes more difficult to treat because of the unpredictable nature and behavior of the person with bipolar.

Other health conditions and substance abuse are often confused in most cases of bipolar disorders. Due to this fact, most cases of bipolar disorders are diagnosed at later stages when the condition has worsened.

It is important to know the symptoms of bipolar disorder so that you are able to treat them once the symptoms are identified. This mental disorder can be termed as dangerous because it can lead to suicide and death. It is advisable to get some help as to prevent these from happening.

Using Witch Hazel As An Anti Aging Cream

Thursday, February 12th, 2009
by Julie Samtsonn

In years gone, Indian tribes used Witch Hazel for medicinal purposes. These days, it is one of a handful of medicinal treatments that are allowed to be used by the Federal Drug Administration. Of course, there are other herbal extracts permitted as dietary supplements, but witch hazel is one of just a select few that are still allowed as topical treatments. It was widely used for ailments such as hemorrhoids, insect bites and stings, skin ulcers, tumors, boils and other rashes like chiggers or poison ivy.

Witch Hazel, a native shrub in America and Europe has had medicinal qualities that have made it valued over the years in varying forms. In early days, it’s branches and flowers were steamed and the results mixed with a percent of alcohol and used for astringents and topical medication. Nowadays, it is found in many different things from mouthwashes, as the distilled witch hazel to anti aging creams and anti wrinkle creams, in the form of witch hazel oil. It has been found as an ingredient in hemorrhoid treatment medicines, even still today. Some of those have been used by home remedy skin care experimentalists and claim that those medicines also work in the anti aging of skin.

In those anti aging treatments, it is particularly useful because it has been found to have capillary constricting effects that reduce inflammation. It also has topical antioxidant properties and is considered a safe, affordable home remedy. Witch Hazel Oil is cheap and can be purchased for under a couple dollars in the pharmacy section of most retail stores. It is a very useful ingredient in skin care lines, specifically anti aging creams and anti wrinkle creams, where it may be found in a more concentrated level and promotes cell turnover as well as cell moisturizing by using the oil concentrates to moisterize the skin cells, keeping them plump and hydrated.

It was in the 1840′s that Theron Pond learned from the Oneida Indians, the medicinal benifits of Witch Hazel. The shrubs are common in the New York and Connecticut areas and these regions still supply much of the witch hazel on the market today. After years of learning from the Oneida Indians, Theron Pond brought the healing powers to mass market, selling it commercially under the name of Golden Treasure. After the death of Theron Pond, the name of the product was changed to “Pond’s extract”.

Witch Hazel production is still alive around Connecticut and the region is one of the leading manufacturers of witch hazel extract. The bulk of harvesting is done in Northwestern Connecticut. Here, property owners harvest from the shrubs every few years, they re-branch and sell directly to distributors. From here, it is then sold for pharmaceutical uses.

Witch Hazel is an antioxidant, radiation protective and anti-inflammatory. It is also an approved astringent and external analgesic. It has internal medicinal benefits also. It’s benefits speaks for themselves, so it is natural that it is an ingredient in anti-aging creams and anti wrinkle creams.

Muscle Building Tips to Achieve the Best Results in the Gym

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009
by Ricardo d Argence

It should be an important part of any person’s healthy exercise routine, but a lot of people think that weight training is just for bodybuilders. No matter what is your reason for working out, maybe to improve your health or the definition of your muscles, the tips here will help you in reaching your goal.

Protein is necessary in order to build muscle, if you do not have enough protein you could go on lifting weights forever and still not build any new muscles. However, the question has always been how much is enough? Bad news are: protein sources like red meat and milk are high in fat. And fat is not desired in bodybuilding.

The basic rule for serious bodybuilders is to consume at least a single gram of protein for each pound of body weight. That means if you weight 170 pounds you should be eating 170 grams of protein every day in order to build muscle mass. If you’re worried about that fat content, choose skim milk and low-fat protein sources such as fish and chicken over red meat.

Some exercise and weight lifting buffs almost become addicted to working out. You can see them in the gym almost daily doing their routines. While that dedication may seem impressive, they could be doing their bodies more harm than good. The reason is that medical research is showing that building muscle isn’t all about the exercise.

You need to let your muscles rest for a time after exerting them like that. In order to recover between sessions, a person should eat well-balanced meals, drink plenty of fluids after working out, and take a day off before another sesssion.

While sleeping may seem like the antithesis to the weight lifting, you won’t build muscle without it. That’s because many of the bodily processes that go on do so while you are sleeping. The reason is simple, your body can redirect energy resources to these other tasks because it’s not being used for anything else.

One of those processes is protein synthesis which is necessary for muscle development. If you’re only sleeping a few hours every night, you’re not giving your body enough time to do the work it needs to complete. Make sure to sleep for at least eight hours every night.

Talking about your workout routine, compound movements are going to build muscle faster than other types of exercises such as squats, which target isolated muscle groups. If you do not lift properly then the muscle groups will not get the most benefit from the workout.

Basically, what you need to do is choose weights to lift that feel heavy for you. That doesn’t necessarily mean you want to get the heaviest on the rack. It just means that you need to feel the muscles working when you lift that weight if you’re going to really benefit from your efforts. If you’re new to bodybuilding, lifting heavy might mean using a 20 pound weight.

Panic Disorder Treatment: Uncovering the Latest Technique

Monday, January 19th, 2009
by Cathy Shermann

Panic disorder treatment now has a new technique. Patients and sufferers of panic attack no longer have to experience the horrifying feelings that come along with a panic attack. Now, it can be possible through the use of many techniques and medication available in the market today. In fact, there are some e-books present that guide you how to effectively stop and prevent panic attacks.

What is a panic attack?

To treat panic attack, it’s important to know what it is first. A panic attack occurs when an individual goes into a panic episode that usually begins abruptly and without warning, peaks in about 10 minutes, and lasts for about a few minutes, a half hour, or even longer. This is considered as a very disabling condition since it prevents the suffering individual from participating in normal events. It could even lead to avoidance of activities associated with feelings of panic in the past.

What are the symptoms of a panic attack?

It’s easy to spot panic attack. Panic attacks are usually characterized by a racing heart, dizzy spells, sweating, trembling, tightness of throat and chest, shortness of breath, nausea, trouble swallowing, hot flashes and dizziness.

Why should you get a panic disorder treatment?

It’s very important if you want to enjoy life. If you have experienced a panic attack, then you know how it can be very disabling for you. You won’t get to participate in normal activities that stress you, such as driving, going to job interviews, and such. Your life and enjoyment could be put on hold because of your recurring panic attacks.

Recommended Treatment

There are now various techniques and methods to treat panic attack. In fact, there is a new technique that promises results without ever having to rely on outdated anxiety techniques like ‘deep breathing’ and ‘positive affirmations’. The technique only takes seconds to implement, and you can do it anytime, anywhere and wherever you want. It does not use hypnosis, and it does not let you follow complicated 30 step programs that bring about only minor improvements. These techniques are usually available in e-books online, and if you want to try out this new technique, then consider getting an e-book about this.

Breaking the Panic Disorder Pattern

It’s also important to know how it occurs. Usually, just the forethought of having a panic attack is enough to start a wave cycle of anxiety. As a matter of fact, its foundation is already laid down way before you experience the outward signs and symptoms. And with the foundations laid down, even the slightest stimulus can trigger and launch the panic attack into full blown motion.

That is why, it is always best to learn how to stop the panic attack pattern way before it starts. If you stop fearing a panic attack, then most definitely, you will learn to get rid of the disorder.

To seriously stop the disorder, try a panic disorder treatment. Stop obsessive worrying. Now, you don’t have to foster unwanted thoughts and overwhelming fears that something dreadful is going to happen. You can break free from this disease if you choose too. Remember, you are not alone. And if you want to enjoy life’s pleasures as it is, get treatment now.
